Nothing
exciting happens in small back-water towns, nothing, save the occasional beer-bust keg party late on a Saturday in the middle
of nowhere. Even then, it's riddled with shitty music, cheap, light beer, and people one would much rather like to see hung
than watch them use their favorite eye-liner on their boy friends.
Along side of these ignorant ingrains are a mass of
maggots that enjoy pitiable music and allow social fashions to control every aspect of their lives. Individuality is no longer
sacred. The “Hot Topic” generation has taken over. Composed of unisex clothing (obsequious to no one) and pathetic
hair cuts with substandard dye-jobs, they are completely oblivious to the outside world. They are meaningless aspirations.
Never the less, there are a select few in this “glorious hovel” of Crivitz, Wisconsin
who do enjoy an ear-thrashing concert, fine whiskies, vodkas, and rums, and of course, the fine art of the female anatomy…
In early April, 2003, Jim Lavarda and Eli Scriven began what they felt as something that held true
meaning. They began a project, originally titled Fuze Box. With rough early goings, but pure determination, name changes,
and line-up alterations, Syfer was born (with it's line up of Jim, Eli, and Derrick).
Syfer plays a unique blend of grungy metal that is, at times, deep, dark,
and lyrical, but then revolves into a pounding and edgy metal attack. The only thing that is comparable to their sound is
melding the harmonistic drone of Alice in Chains, the simple anger of Chevelle, and the complex sound structure of Tool.
Through over 4 years of hard work and gigs, Syfer has played in
many different places. Inluded are 6 appearances at the Crivitz High School Battle of the Bands and a
set at Wisconsin's Largest Beach Party. Syfer has also had the opportunity to play at the glorious Main Stage
Bar (Green Bay) on several occasions. Syfer has oppened for the likes of Dirge, Via Noctis, Slaub, Vagrancy, and Dichotic.
Oh yeah, and did we forget to mention a little gig at the Rave Bar
in Milwaukee, Wisconsin?
Jerry from Via Noctis, after watching a Syfer show was quoted with, "These
guys are pretty much kick ass, you'll be hearing from them soon." Kevin from Vagrancy, after watching a Main Stage show and
hearing Syfer was made of 16 year olds had this to say, "Fuck, I can only imagine how they do in the future."
…One could only imagine
how the solitude has affected on these young minds...that...or the chemical influences...
Syfer is:
